Rating relatability of design lingo and frameworks

by

I’m a designer and I don’t mention Design thinking and Double diamond anymore. I’m surprised to see it in job postings nowadays.

Couple of months ago I attend a design conference and talks about the process had me feeling we are out of touch. In my experience outside of designers circles it is not relatable. That one time one CFO told me he loved design thinking. I hold the conversation close to my heart because it happened one time in my entire career.

Bottom line. I’d still recommend all novice designers to understand what DT is, in the end of the day we do need empathy to understand people. Advocating for it as a process in a product organization though? I’m sceptical it’s helpful. I’m even sceptical it should be done today. We have other frameworks: blends of dev, business and design such as Lean UX, Shape up, Continuous discovery and others.

So here is a rating of design lingo and frameworks based on their relatability.
